FAQs

We hope the following provides helpful information when considering using a videographer. We offer a no-obligation free initial consultation, so you can decide with complete confidence.

About wedding videos in general

I am already planning to use a photographer. Why should I consider using a videographer too?

“Simply because it lives and breathes and is the most powerful way of reliving those cherished memories forever.”

Set to music your film will not only sound stunning but look stunning because all our films are shot in Hi Definition and we offer you both Blue-Ray and the DVD format for a crystal clear image. In the Post-Production process we will create a film tailored to your every need.

How far in advance should I book a videographer?
The most popular and experienced videographers will be booked many months in advance, especially for weddings between May and September. We recommend you make enquiries as soon as you have booked your venues.

How can I be confident that the videographer I choose will do a good job?
Look for a videographer who is experienced, creative and artistic and ask to see some examples of their work. Check that the quality of the samples matches your expectations. Ask yourself the following: Is the picture steady? Is everything in focus? Can sounds be hard clearly? View samples of our work.
When meeting a videographer, make sure that the person you meet will be the one who will actually record your wedding.

Find out if your videographer is familiar with your venues. If not, check whether they will they visit your venues in advance as part of their preparations.

Ask the same questions of each videographer you consult, so that you can compare their service and quotes. Make sure you understand whether there are any extras that are not included in the price quoted.

What else should I consider?

It’s very important to feel at ease with the person recording your celebrations – they may be present throughout one of the most important days of your life.

Think about whether the videographer you choose will be sensitive to the way you are getting married and the people you’re inviting.

Do all wedding venues allow videographers?
Almost all venues (for both the wedding service and the reception) allow videography, but always check with the venue directly. If videography is permitted, find out if there’s a charge for this.

About Butterfly Films wedding videos

How do your charges compare with other videographers?
There is no standard charge for professional videographers and prices can vary from a few hundred pounds (for part-time professionals using semi-professional equipment) to a few thousand pounds for the most experienced videographers who use broadcast quality equipment and employ several camera operators and crew. Like most things in life, you usually get what you pay for. We are confident that our prices are great value for money and reflect the quality product and service we provide.

I really want to use a professional videographer but my budget is tight. Can you still help?
Certainly. As well as our fixed price wedding packages, we provide bespoke packages to suit most budgets. Just let us know your requirements and budget.

What will the video be like?
You may like to have a video of just your reception, just the ceremony or a record of the whole day, including the bride and groom preparing and ending with the last dance. We’re creative folks with lots of ideas but will also want to find out about your ideas and preferences too. We’ll discuss all options with you during your free initial consultation.

Many styles are possible, such as formal, Hollywood, fly-on-the-wall and humorous. It’s important to give some thought to, and let us know, the style you prefer.

How many cameras do you use?
One or two, depending on your preference and budget. One camera may not be enough to capture everything in a wedding ceremony, but is the cheapest and least obtrusive option. Any more than two cameras and there’s a risk that your wedding venue may look more like a film set!

What equipment do you use?
We use state of the art, broadcast quality cameras with shotgun microphones. Our cameras are fitted with lighting for indoor use, should this be required. We have back-up cameras that are comparable in quality to our main equipment.

What’s included in the price?
Our prices include filming on the day, editing (including titles and your choice of music) and a personalised presentation DVD in your choice of standard or blue ray formats. For your family and friends, five additional standard or blue ray DVDs are included in the price.

Do you have the necessary licences to record any copyrighted music we may want played during the service and reception?
Yes

Do you have the necessary licences to use copyrighted music as background music or do you use copyright-free music?
We hold licenses to cover the use of copyrighted background music and can also provide a range of copyright-free music. The cost of all music, whether copyrighted or copyright free, is included in the price we quote.

Are you members of any professional associations?
Yes, we are members of The Institute of Videography, a UK-registered, not-for-profit organisation which aims to promote videography and establish recognised qualifications and training in videography. Members agree to act in accordance with the IOV Code of Practice and strive to maintain the highest levels of production competence and professionalism in their work.

Will you work with the photographer to ensure mutual cooperation?
Yes. With your permission, we will talk to your photographer in advance, discussing how the ceremony and reception will be photographed and recorded. We’ll ensure that the positions we each plan to take up on the day will not clash. We believe that the two records of your day should complement each other.

Are you unobtrusive?
We understand that whether religious or civil, a wedding ceremony is a solemn occasion and we always ensure that we blend into the background. During your initial free consultation with us, we will discuss whether you prefer the filming of your ceremony to be entirely static or whether you are happy with some movement. Whatever you choose, the shoot will not interfere with the wedding day proceedings in any way.

We pride ourselves on hiding in corners to capture the special moments of your day.

How will you be dressed on the day of the wedding?
We will dress as if we were guests, respecting your personal wishes and any cultural or religious protocols. We’re masters at blending into the background.

Do you copy-protect or scramble the videotape?
Only if you want this.

Our insurances include public liability insurance, product liability, employer’s liability and professional indemnity insurance. Please ask anytime to see the certificates for these.
All our electrical equipment is regularly tested to comply with Health and Safety legislation.

How much do you charge for additional hours beyond those agreed?
£60 per hour or part thereof.

How much are additional copies of the wedding tapes?
